Not every set of wisdom teeth needs to come out. But when they cause crowding, pain, partial eruption, or repeated infection, removal is often the right call. We handle most extractions in-office.
Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars that show up in the late teens or early twenties. In some people they come in cleanly and stay put; in most people they cause trouble — not enough room in the jaw, angled growth that crowds neighboring teeth, or partial eruption that traps food and causes infection.
Dr. Blackhurst evaluates each patient individually. If your wisdom teeth are causing problems (or are clearly going to), we'll walk you through what to expect from removal — the procedure itself, the anesthesia options, and the couple of days of recovery afterward.
Most wisdom teeth extractions are done in the office. For complex cases involving impacted teeth or significant bone involvement, we may refer you to an oral surgeon we trust.
